Achievements of Department of Pathology and Blood Bank

Since its establishment, the Department of Pathology has been actively providing routine laboratory services including Histopathology, Cytology, Clinical Pathology, and Haematology along with operating the Blood Bank and conducting academic activities.

Statistics

Total number of cases in different sections of the department since inception:

  • Histology: 2063

  • Cytology: 1988

  • Clinical Pathology & Haematology:

    • CBC: 22094

    • Coagulation Profile: 7678

    • Hb Typing: 675

    • Urine: 11188

Blood Bank Statistics:

  • Number of Units Collected: 29591

  • Number of Units Issued: 28287

  • Number of VBD Camps Conducted: 133

Milestones and Events
  • First blood donation after shifting of the Blood Bank to LMCH premises was conducted on 28th September 2021.

  • A VBD Camp with a record number of 192 units collected was held on 23rd April 2022, organized in collaboration with ITBP, Kimin, Arunachal Pradesh.

  • The Blood Component Separation Unit (BCSU) was established and inaugurated by the then Honourable Health Minister, Shree Keshab Mahanta, on 3rd September 2022.

  • A Thalassemia screening camp was conducted on 15th November 2022 by the Blood Bank, Department of Pathology under the aegis of ASACS, screening more than 200 children.

  • The In-Charge of the Blood Centre, LMCH, is included in the 3-member Blood Centre assessment team under ASBTC.

Academic Achievements
  • Observation of World Thalassemia Day and a weeklong IEC activity from 7th to 13th May 2023 with the theme "Be aware, share, care; strengthening education to bridge the thalassemia care gap," organized by the Blood Centre, LMCH, Lakhimpur, Assam.

  • Observation of Pharmacovigilance Week highlighting Hemovigilance, held on 20th September 2024, organized by the Department of Pharmacology in collaboration with the Blood Bank, Department of Pathology, LMCH, Lakhimpur, Assam.

  • Hundred UG students appeared with a pass percentage of 99% and 5 students achieving honours in each year 2023 and 2024.

  • An Automated IHC Machine has been procured, and an IHC Lab will be established at the earliest.
