Community Medicine

Faculty of Community Medicine, LMCH. March 2025

Since its inception in 2021, the Department of Community Medicine at LMCH has been dedicated to academic excellence, public health, preventive medicine, and holistic community healthcare. Our mission is to promote health, prevent diseases, and improve the quality of life for populations through education, research, and community outreach. We focus on epidemiology, biostatistics, health promotion, and disease prevention strategies, ensuring that healthcare extends beyond hospital settings to the communities most in need.

Currently, we have a faculty strength of eleven who are working full time in teaching the three batches of students, engaging in community outreach activities, along with other activities of the department.

Our department is actively involved in field-based training, enabling medical students to understand the real-world challenges of public health. We conduct regular field visits for each batch of

medical students as a part of the Family Adoption Program, allotting a minimum of 3 families per student. Regular awareness programs and free health camps are also conducted in the 6 adopted villages.

Research is a cornerstone of our work, addressing pressing public health issues such as infectious diseases, maternal and child health, and non-communicable diseases. All our faculty are engaged in ongoing research work in their fields of interest.

We also play a critical role in guiding policymakers by providing data-driven insights for better healthcare planning. Our faculty acts as External Monitors, Assessors, Nodal Officers, and Resource Persons for ongoing government programs and schemes in the state.

Through a combination of teaching, research, and service, the Department of Community Medicine at LMCH strives to create a healthier society by bridging the gap between medical science and public health implementation. Our commitment is to train future healthcare professionals who will be the driving force in shaping preventive healthcare and strengthening primary healthcare systems.

Vision:

To be a center of excellence in community medicine, fostering innovation, research, and community engagement to improve public health and promote health equity.

Mission:

1. To enhance community health through evidence-based interventions, outreach programs, and preventive healthcare initiatives.

2. To provide high-quality education and training to future healthcare professionals, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to address public health challenges.

3. To conduct impactful research that informs policy and advances public health practices.

4. To collaborate with governmental and non-governmental organizations to strengthen health systems and promote sustainable healthcare solutions.

5. To advocate for health equity, disease prevention, and community empowerment through active engagement and awareness programs. Here's a glimpse into the departmental activities that have shaped our journey toward a healthier tomorrow.
